What does the free iPhone filter block?

Adult websites. Screen Time has a content restriction that limits them, and iOS applies it at the system level rather than inside a particular app. The filter is not part of a program you opened, so it does not stop when that program closes.

Apple documents the behaviour only as the system blocking adult content. It is not a list you maintain, and it is not perfect.

Can the free filter be turned off?

Yes, by whoever holds the Screen Time passcode. If that is you, the filter is a delay rather than a wall. A delay helps at 11pm. It does not hold if you were counting on a wall. Some people give the passcode to someone else, so that switching the filter off means asking them.

What does the free filter not cover?
