Limit Adult Websites not working on iPhone
Limit Adult Websites is the iPhone Screen Time setting that limits access to websites iOS detects as adult. When it seems not to work, the cause is usually one of four things: no Screen Time passcode, a site allowed from the block page, a site the filter does not recognise, or content inside an app rather than a website.

The setting filters websites Apple detects as adult, and nothing else. Most reports of it failing trace back to one of four causes, and each has one fix. The full setup is in how to block porn on an iPhone.
What does Limit Adult Websites do?
It is one of three Web Content options in Screen Time, next to Unrestricted and Only Approved Websites. Apple describes it as automatically limiting access to detected adult websites (Apple). The list of what counts as adult is Apple’s. You cannot see it. You can add sites to it and make exceptions.
On iOS 26 it sits at Settings, Screen Time, Content & Privacy Restrictions, App Store, Media, Web, & Games, Web Content (iPhone User Guide). Content & Privacy Restrictions has its own switch, and turning it off pauses every restriction underneath it. The other two options are compared in Limit Adult Websites vs Only Approved Websites.
Is a Screen Time passcode set?
Without one, the filter is a setting anyone holding the unlocked phone can change, you included. Apple says that once a passcode is set, it “must be entered before you can change any Screen Time settings” (Apple).
- Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Lock Screen Time Settings. On iOS 27 it is under Manage Screen Time.
- Enter a four-digit passcode, then enter it again.
- Set up Screen Time Passcode Recovery when asked.
Who should hold that passcode is covered in how to make Screen Time hard to turn off.
Why does the block page let you allow the site?
When Safari hits a filtered site, the page it shows offers a way to allow it. Allowing a site changes your Screen Time settings. With no passcode set, nothing stands in the way, and the site stays allowed from then on.
The fix is the passcode above. Then open Web Content and check the list of sites that are always allowed. Delete anything that should not be on it.
Which sites does it miss, and how do you add them?
The filter only blocks what it detects. Apple does not publish how detection works, so expect misses. When a site gets through, add it yourself:
- Open Settings, tap Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap App Store, Media, Web, & Games, then Web Content.
- Under Never Allow, tap Add Website.
- Enter the site’s address.
It is a list you keep adding to.
Does it cover apps and in-app browsers?
A website filter checks websites. A video inside a social app’s feed is something the app delivers, so Limit Adult Websites never sees it. Apple documents the filter in terms of Safari. It says nothing about the browser an app opens when you tap a link, or about other browsers, so test each one you use.
For an app that keeps serving the content, the fix is blocking or deleting the app. To stop it coming back, see how to make Screen Time hard to turn off. Where each blocking method gives out is in system filter vs DNS vs app blocker and why blockers fail.
A site still loads. What should you re-check?
- Content & Privacy Restrictions is switched on.
- Web Content is set to Limit Adult Websites, not Unrestricted.
- The site is not on the always-allowed list.
- The site is under Never Allow, typed as its address.
- You are testing a fresh load in a new Safari tab, not a page left open.
- iOS is up to date. Apple asks for the latest version for Screen Time to work as intended.
What changed in iOS 27?
Apple reorganised Screen Time in iOS 27. Its updated guide, written for a child’s device, puts the website filter under Apps & Websites, Restrictions, Filtering, and calls the strictest option Approved Websites Only (Apple). Blocked sites are added there with the Add button. If your Settings shows Apps & Websites under Screen Time, start there.
